Choosing To Thrive Mentors

Welcome to Choosing To Thrive! Imagine how different our community would be if we decided to end poverty. Thousands of families in our incredibly resource rich community cannot find a way out of crippling poverty.

Becoming a Choosing To Thrive mentor means showing support to someone who is working their way out of poverty. You can provide a key component by sharing just a few hours a month.

Consider how much you will help by:

  • Paying it forward

  • Sharing your skills

  • Opening a door

  • Becoming a champion

  • Collaborating with someone looking to advance

If anyone’s ever believed in you, here’s a great way to say thanks.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor just fill out the Mentor Intake Form. A staff member will contact. Or pick up the phone and call 315-218-0938 for more information on Choosing To Thrive and volunteer opportunities.

Voice from an Ally

In considering being an mentor, my biggest question was whether I was qualified to help. What if I guided someone the wrong way, or created additional problems, or just plain wasted their time by not knowing HOW to be a mentor or communicated poorly? In the end, it has nothing to do with ME. It really has to do with what I am willing to do to help others. There are systems built into the program to maximize help for a Leader for Change.

My Leader for Change has been through a lot and has worked hard to get where she is today. She is making incredible progress. She tells me that my ongoing support and “being there” helped her, especially through the rough patches. I tell her that her grit and determination have made the difference. I feel extremely lucky. We ended up becoming friends. My Leader for change has been a gift to me; something I didn’t expect going into this.
